One Less Death Trap...

Left bedroom...
Right bedroom!
Actually, make that three less death traps.  The weird windows from the upstairs bedrooms that overlooked the living room have been filled in!  Unfortunately, it takes away a lot of natural light from the bedrooms.  We are planning on adding fans with light kits to each bedroom.  I think that adding the light kits and additional lighting to the bedrooms will make sure that they don't appear too dark.

Sky high!
Here is the view of the patched up opening from the living room.  And yes that scaffolding is sky high!  They'll use it to put a fresh coat of white paint on the ceiling.  Once the hardwoods are in we plan on staining the wood beams a similar color.

Yay! All closed up!

The painters are still in the house.  It's taking longer than expected to remove all the wallpaper.  One of the previous owners did not properly prime the walls before applying the wallpaper.  So now, when you try to remove it, it's easy to remove bits of the drywall.  Not a great scenario.  The easiest way to remedy this mistake is to just go ahead and use a primer like Kilz over the wallpaper (two coats!) and then sand from there.  We are planning on putting new wallpaper in some of the rooms so fortunately the walls don't have to be "paint perfect."  Check out the picture of the "library."  You guys cracked me up how much you loved this wallpaper.  Yes, it's amazing and from the 80s but sadly, it has to go.  Trust me, we have something WAY better in mind!
Can you see your beloved Library through the primer?

Let the Painting Begin!

Master Bedroom!
Not sure about the color. Thoughts?
Basement built ins have been painted white.
Basement trim & shelving is painted!
White trim in the Kitchen.  Loving it!
Exciting news!  The sub floor is in!  We have one minor hiccup with the sub floor and an inspector in regards to the height of one step but our contractor assures us it will be taken care of (fingers crossed!).  Now they have begun the painting process.  It's so exciting to see the natural wood trim turn a crisp clean traditional white.  I'm not sure about the color in the Master Bedroom.  It's turning out a bit more blue than we had pictured.  Granted, only one coat is on the wall and there's no flooring down whatsoever.  Hopefully we can downplay the blue with finishes - or just suck it up and repaint it one day if it's absolutely necessary.  I know I already mentioned how different the trim alone looks.  Look back at previous entries and you'll notice that there was either natural colored trim throughout the house or if you were in the Master, it was painted light pink.  As for the first floor of the home we picked a color from Sherwin Williams called "Mindful Grey."  Although the painters have only put up a bit of the "Mindful Grey" in the dining room and stairway I am already obsessed with it!  Grey is such a soothing neutral color.  I think it will look wonderful against the fireplace in the living room !

There's only a little bit of paint up as of now, but it's amazing to see this house start to become our home!

R.I.P. Basketball Goal

Yes Andrew, we see it's gone...
Mini mud pond where basketball goal was!
Yes.  It's true.  For all the guys out there that had their heart set on pick up games in our driveway, I'm sorry to say your dream has been dashed.  You can blame me.  Or you could blame Uncle Buck.  You see, Uncle Buck showed up the other day and offered to take down the goal - for free.  He is going to try to reclaim the metal for $50.  Best of luck Uncle Buck!  Our neighbor came over today and told us that the basketball goal had been there since the first homeowners built the place.  That means the basketball goal was zeroing in on it's 30th birthday.  Sorry little guy!  It was time to GO!
